FAQ ABOUT DBC

Q1. When and how did Douglas Baptist Church start?

Douglas Baptist Church (DBC) launched in 2006. It was a church plant begun by Cork Baptist Church, Cork, Ireland.

Q2. Why do you meet in a school?

Up until this point, we've not needed our own building. We have an agreement with Douglas Community School in Douglas, Cork that we may use their canteen area for our Sunday services. The facilities in the school serve our needs well for Sunday services. We use a variety of other venues (including our homes, local community centres, and local outdoor settings) to host our other church activites.

Q3. What is a Baptist?

A Baptist is someone who:
1) believes that the Bible is the word of God, and as a result, our primary source of authority,
2) believes that church membership is for those who have personally trusted in Jesus as their Lord and Saviour AND have been subsequently baptized,
3) believes every Christian has direct access to God,
4) believes in the autonomy of the local church,
5) and believes in religious liberty for all.

You can find out more under Our Beliefs.

Q4. Why do you take the Bible so seriously?

In DBC, we believe that the Bible is God's word. We believe that the ultimate Author of the Bible is God Himself, who spoke through the scribes of His choosing. This means that God's word is the only perfect, sufficient, and infallible source of information about God, us, life, death, and eternity. We believe and we witness that God still uses His word today to teach, guide, and transform hearts and lives.

When we gather as a local church, we want to be committed to letting God's word speak through all of our worship. When the Bible speaks: God speaks. As a result, we gather to: read His word, see His word (in baptism and Lord's supper), apply His word and obey His word.

We worship God, not the Bible. Yet His word is our guide in worshipping Him alone.

Q5. I'm afraid of dying, can you help?

No-one needs to be afraid of dying - because God freely offers the gift of eternal life. Please contact us and we would love to show you in the Bible what God says about His free gift of eternal life. We can guide you into receiving this wonderful gift from God! You will also find the information you need in our sections about 'the Gospel' and 'God's appeal to you'.
